Aeolus
is started around 1999/2000. The actual formers of the
project Aeolus were Michiel and Jurrie. We started creating
some progressive music, after a few years of "progsilence."

the history before Aeolus)
Ron Oppelaar (the former guitarplayer of Aeolus) came
up with Raymond van Kooten as a possible singer and songwriter
for us and we decided to give it a try. Raymond, who has
his roots in somewhat different type of music, seemed
to be a prefect addition for the the project and we started
creating more songs, which can be found on the latest
release "Dust on the mirror."
Aeolus gigged once at a festival with guestmusicians.
We rehearsed a couple of time and played five songs; people,
press and other listeners were pleasantly surprised and
that was a nice input to go on with what we were doing
mainly:....writing! (check
the lentepop gig-report)
After having finished 11 songs, there was enough material
to record a CD, which wasn't really planned to be a concept
CD. Together with an engineer we decided to record the
whole album from scratch and due to a certain idea we
planned on making it a concept album. We shuffled the
songorder and Raymond made some changes to the lyrics
and some extra "in between" lines which is now
the voice of Aeolus and Tara on the CD.
The recording process took more than two years and ended
up in a high quality recording! It was a time of blood,
sweat and tears, and 2 years is actually too long... .
In the mean time we decided that a CD cannot be sold if
there is no band behind it. We started the first line-up
with Ronald Oppelaar on guitars, Chris van 't Veer on
bass and Matthijs Hekking on drums. The first and actually
the last gig with this line-up was at Musicon in The Hague.
Again the audience was enthusiastic! (check
the Musicon gig-report)
Raymond and Ron left the band almost at the same time
due to several reasons, Aeolus was not dead, but near,
cause when the voice of a band decides to leave, you need
to find another good singer, plus you need to be aware
of a new sound and look that will cause.
Now Aeolus has a new line-up, strong and fresh. Marco
(guitars) and Bart (vocals) can be seen as a fresh influence
and the new material created is made with the whole band,
pretty different than the actual way we made our material
before (in the studio with the three of us: Michiel, Jurrie
and Raymond). We are glad Aeolus is back on track. |
