Michiel
and Jurrie are two friends for years now. They started
making music when they were about the age of 12/13. As
the most bands do, they started with playing covers of
Dire Straits and others. Soon the self-made material came,
very very simple songs, but hey...you need to start somewhere!?
After a few years (2 or so...) the first band became the
band Quaternion (which means group of 4) and the "nion"
in the name has something "symfo" in it we figured,
that's correct, we started a symphonic band, no more Knopfler,
but only self written material which was bombastic symfo..
. One of the songs made at that time, Fate, also appeared
on the Aeolus album "Dust on the mirror."
The band Quaternion was actually a 3 piece band and a
drummachine until Matthijs came up and gathered the band
as an amazing drummer (he was young, very young..) He
did an audition by playing Dave Weckl stuff without even
any trouble doing it....!
Now Quaternion was really Quaternion, we gigged once in
Bodegraven at De Zon together together with a band called
Tyfoon. These guys were much older and wiser then we were
at the time and acted that way, until we finished our
show... :-) We also gigged at a band-contest (stupid thing,
music is not sports) in Dordrecht as a sort of surprise
act in between 6 trashmetal bands.
After a while Quaternion quit due the usual band-quit
reasons and everyone started doing different things. After
a few years Michiel and Jurrie founded "vrnee
soundproductions" which still is the studio they
are running with partner and friend Barend Onneweer (check
out Barend at Raamw3rk)
They made all kinda stuff, if you as proglover would hear
it, you'd say we were insane or at least sinful.
After making crap but also very nice stuff, Michiel and
Jurrie started making a instrumental piece, with a fragment
of Rabin who died a week after we put in the fragment
(scary....) This instrumental piece made us decide: "we
need to pick up the roots and start over again...."
So we did, and now we are here in 2003 and the roots are
back !! |
